A nanny is someone who looks after and provides care for children and infants from the age of 0-16. The nanny usually provides this care in the home of the families that they work for. This can include being in sole charge of the children or shared care which is often referred to as a 'Mothers Helper'.
A nanny is someone who has a desire to work with children and will often have some knowledge and previous experience on working with children. They may also have qualifications although this is not a legal requirement.
The roles and responsibilities of the nanny are to ensure that the children are looked after and that their day to day needs are fully met. The duties of a nanny may include safeguarding the children, enhancing their development, maintaining the children's hygiene, assisting children to get dressed, cooking, light household chores, providing stimulating activities, routine planning, school runs, after school activities.A Nanny could live in with the family or have their own separate living arrangements.
A Nanny is usually required to have an up to date DBS Check and whilst First Aid training is not a requirement it is very attractive to potential employers. A nanny is usually employed by the parents who are responsible for setting up the Nanny's payroll.
